When I went to Heal For Life for my first healing week, I was told about the modules that gave you the Certificate in Trauma Healing and I wanted to do them, but felt I couldn’t as I wasn’t smart enough as I had always struggled in school due to my trauma.
On my second healing week, Modules got mentioned again and a peer support volunteer told me about their experience of doing them, and how they didn’t feel smart enough to do them (this really resonated with me) and that it was the environment and support of the people leading modules that helped them to complete. This gave me hope that maybe I did have a chance of doing them and not feeling dumb!
The modules are set on a beautiful property where you can stay while doing them and be around other survivors with the same desire to heal, and I made some wonderful friendships with like-minded people.
The Learning environment is so relaxed and supportive. Even when I got triggered by some of the information, I was supported and De-Triggered so that I could go back into the learning environment and not miss valuable information as I had done many times at school... I never felt that any question was a dumb question. I was always supported and validated and that was so encouraging.
The beauty of these modules is that you can do which ever one that you may like to gain a deeper understanding of, that is relevant to your trauma and the effects on the brain... e.g. Module 2: How trauma effects the brain. That module gave me the clarity to understand why I struggled so much in school, due to trauma, and triggers that prevented me from being able to learn easily, and also why I missed bits. I realised that I am not dumb - I simply had the effects of childhood trauma on the brain!
Being involved in this type of learning gave me the confidence to complete all of the modules over time and get a certificate in Trauma Informed Practice!
With this new confidence I then went on to do my Diploma in Counselling and I now work as a counsellor with not only lived in experience of trauma and its effects, but also, a deep understanding of how to offer trauma informed practice to effectively help other survivors.
I owe my new career that I absolutely love, to these modules and Heal For Life.

The modules expanded on the healing-week workshops and greatly enhanced my understanding of the material and how it applied to me and how to carry that to guests, in my role as a volunteer.
Each two-day module delves deeper into the issues and brings new deeper awareness of how trauma functions in the life of a survivor. The assignments then compelled me to really think about the material to provide and suitable answer to the questions. The Attachment theory and Boundary assignments took me ages to understand before I could write a coherent answer. This highlighted to me how crucial these issues were to my own healing. The added bonus is that the modules take place in the same loving environment as the healing weeks, at the Heal For Life centre.

The Modules where an eye opener for me. They gave me answers to the questions that I had.
Educating myself throughout these modules about trauma, how it really impacts our brain, why we behave in a certain way, to so much more information I didn’t know which inspired me to study more.
The modules are presented in a friendly, fun environment where I made close friends and I treasure many special moments.
I really appreciate the graduation once you complete the modules and receive a Trauma Informed Certificate - which I am so proud of.
These modules have helped my healing journey but also, I have gained friendships, special memories and an education which supports my career.

Doing the modules for the certificate in trauma healing was a great step for me. Not only did I learn how to help others on their healing journeys, I became trauma informed. I gained a deeper understanding of how trauma affects the brain and impacts on lives.
My own self awareness deepened. My healing journey enhanced greatly through undertaking the modules. I have applied what I have learnt at Heal for Life in assisting my Coaching clients step more into the fullness of themselves.
Invaluable.

Attending the Heal For Life trauma education modules was one of the most memorable learning experiences of my life. Each module is delivered by educators with expertise in the effects of childhood trauma, but also importantly, the wisdom and understanding that comes with lived experience. The module on Attachment Styles left me wondering why, when I had my own children, I had not been made aware of the impact of parenting style on social and emotional development. I would have done things differently. This learning so important for anyone caring for a child.
I would recommend the HFL modules as offering a unique and rich learning experience.
